Runners In Process of Suing New York Post Over Boston Marathon Bombing Story

Two runners at the Boston Marathon on April 15 of this year, where said two bombs went off, are suing the  New York Post for portraying them falsely as suspect bombers at the marathon.

According the the Boston Globe the two runners, Salaheddin Barhoum and Yassine Zaimi were depicted indirectly as the bombers, with the heading of 'Bag Men'  in the April 18th post. Here's the post below.

On Face value the two men are made to look terrible in the eyes of the reader. They seem libel. But even with the blatant imagery and thoughts it provokes the reader; editor Col Allan defends the page with “We did not identify them as suspects.” Although this is just an exert, and one cannot be too sure what else was said, Allan undermines the question with untruth.  Sure, New York Post did not identify Barhoum and Zaimi directly in words as the suspects, but with intent, through suggestion in imagery and words they have made the men look guilty.

According to the complaint the men's attorneys, Barhoum and Zaimi are suing the New York Post for ‘libel, negligent infliction of emotional distress and invasion of privacy.’  Also to mention the men are seeking monetary compensation in the court case, which has gone to the Suffolk Superior Court in Boston.

The men deserve to get compensation and both the US and our own mass media corporations here in Canada need reforms and penalties which would hold a corporate news outlet publicly responsible for reports which suggest violence either through imagery  or words towards any group, or individuals. The men will most likely get compensation, but they were also have to carry around the social stigma which this corporation has caused. But I urge you to keep in mind that the report of this suing came from Fox News in which Fox News could be potentially trying to damage another news corporation in pursue of becoming a more prominent corporation. Just a thought.
